FRV, a leading global renewable energy company and part of Jameel Energy, has announced its entry into the Finnish market through a strategic partnership with local operator Will & Must. The collaboration aims to develop 600 MW of photovoltaic projects, taking them to the 'ready to build' phase.
This venture marks FRV’s first foray into the Nordic region, aligning with Will & Must’s ambitious goal of preparing 1,000 hectares of land for solar deployment by 2027. The planned 600 MW capacity will encompass several projects in various stages of planning, expected to reach the 'ready to build' phase between 2024 and 2026.
Nordic countries are increasingly integrating photovoltaics into their energy mix, complementing their predominantly wind-driven systems. The region benefits from vast tracts of available land and unique solar conditions, including longer daylight hours in summer, higher solar irradiation intensity, and the reflective properties of snow, which enhance solar efficiency. Additionally, photovoltaic cells perform optimally in cold environments.
Finland stands out as a particularly attractive market, being a pioneer in clean energy with most of its electricity generation already fossil-free. This initiative by FRV and Will & Must represents a significant step forward in expanding renewable energy infrastructure in the region, contributing to Finland’s sustainable energy goals.
