In 2024, India has solidified its position as the fifth largest tourist market for Australia, marking a notable 12 percent increase in visitor numbers compared to the previous year. This information was shared by Nishant Kashikar, the Country Manager for Tourism Australia in India and the Gulf region.

According to Kashikar, approximately 443,000 Indian nationals traveled to Australia in 2024, a rise from 396,000 in 2023. This surge in tourism has allowed India to climb from the seventh to the fifth spot among the largest inbound markets for Australia.

Kashikar highlighted that New Zealand continues to be the leading source market for Australian tourism, followed by China, the United States, and the United Kingdom. He pointed out that India has successfully overtaken Japan and Singapore in terms of visitor numbers, achieving this ranking based on pre-pandemic levels from 2019.

The growth in Indian tourists reflects a broader trend of increasing interest in Australia as a travel destination, driven by factors such as cultural ties, educational opportunities, and a desire for unique experiences. As India continues to emerge as one of the fastest-growing markets for Australian tourism, the potential for further growth remains significant.

Tourism Australia is likely to focus on enhancing its marketing strategies to attract even more Indian travelers, capitalizing on this upward trend and fostering stronger connections between the two nations. This development is a promising sign for the tourism sector, indicating a robust recovery and a bright future ahead.
