India has been identified as the largest market for Human Mobile Devices in terms of financial contributions and resources, according to key executives from HMD India. In an interview with PTI, Ravi Kunwar, AC VP and CEO of HMD India, along with Jean Francois Baril, Chairman and CEO of HMD Global, emphasized India's pivotal role in the company's global strategy.
Baril highlighted India as the leading contributor to HMD's financial performance and resources, noting that the company employs nearly 200 people in the country and has established several global functions there. He commended the dynamic growth of India in recent years and expressed enthusiasm for expanding operations in the region. Describing India as a "vast reservoir of talent and intelligence," he underscored its significance to HMD.
"India is our top country in terms of numbers and resources. The dynamics we've seen in India over the past few years have been remarkable," Baril stated.
On Wednesday, HMD launched two music-centric feature phones, the HMD 130 Music and HMD 150 Music, both equipped with a 2500 mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.0, Type C Fast Charging, and UPI payment capabilities. The company also announced plans to introduce an entry-level 5G smartphone soon.
Kunwar reiterated HMD's commitment to local production, revealing that nearly all products sold in India are manufactured domestically. He noted that India serves not only as a crucial market for sales but also as a strategic hub for exports. "Almost 100 percent of our products are made in India. Our EMS partners are currently operating at optimal capacity, and they can scale up as needed," Kunwar explained.
The HMD 130 and HMD 150 Music phones will be available at competitive prices of Rs 1,899 and Rs 2,399, respectively, through retail stores, e-commerce platforms, and the HMD website.
