
LG Soft India and CUSAT Set Up Smart Home Innovation Lab

LG Soft India, the R&D arm of LG Electronics, has teamed up with the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) to establish a cutting edge Smart Home Technology Lab. The lab will be set up within the CUSAT campus and aims to drive research and development in smart home solutions, particularly in overcoming connectivity challenges.
With a funding of Rs one crore spread over three years, this collaboration will focus on ensuring smooth communication between various Internet of Things (IoT) devices, regardless of brand or manufacturer. The initiative seeks to eliminate fragmentation in the smart home ecosystem and deliver a seamless, unified user experience.
The lab will also explore the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to create smarter, more intuitive home environments. These technologies will enable systems to predict user behavior, automate everyday tasks, and offer a highly personalized experience.
According to Santhosh Kumar G, Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Centre for Information Resource Management at CUSAT, the lab will bring together academic expertise and industry knowledge to develop solutions that are both innovative and practical.

The partnership aims to nurture academic industry collaboration by leveraging LG Soft India’s experience in product development and CUSAT’s research capabilities. Students and researchers will get hands on experience working on real world challenges in the smart home space.
