  • Walmart is eliminating market coordinator roles as part of an internal restructuring to improve operational efficiency.
  • Training academy roles are being revised to prioritize in-person training at high-volume store locations.
  • Affected employees will be offered alternative roles, including new coaching positions, even where current vacancies don't exist.

Walmart is undergoing another round of internal restructuring that will impact hundreds of employees in store-support and training roles, according to an internal memo reviewed by Reuters. The retail giant is eliminating the market coordinator position a role responsible for compiling and analyzing data for store managers in a move aimed at improving operational efficiency.

Cedric Clark, Executive Vice President of Store Operations for Walmart U.S., confirmed the decision in a memo sent to employees, emphasizing that the changes are part of efforts to streamline operations and refocus resources on high-volume locations.

Additionally, the company is revamping roles within its training academies to emphasize in-person training for associates at busy store locations. Walmart has assured affected employees that they will be supported through alternative opportunities, including new coaching roles even in markets where vacancies do not currently exist.

This restructuring follows broader job cuts announced in May, where the company laid off around 1,500 employees across global tech teams, U.S. e-commerce fulfillment centers, and its advertising unit, Walmart Connect. Earlier this year, Walmart also closed its North Carolina office, relocating staff to its primary hubs in Arkansas and California as part of a consolidation strategy.
