"Amazon approached the DoT close to two years ago and, since the company has initiated commercial launch of satellites, it desires to obtain all the approvals prior to starting commercial services later this year," the report cited a source as saying.

Amazon'slatest action follows just a week after the Centre granted Starlink a conditional approval to provide satellite-based internet services in India. The company is now waiting for the final nod.

It applied to receive regulatory approvals from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to use their satellite network and provide satellite broadband services within India.
